You are not stuck

What if you're not stuck, just becoming who you need to be? In this post, I share the unexpected lessons from the many jobs I’ve had, and how each one built the foundation for the work I do today. A reminder that every phase matters, even if it doesn’t look like it yet.

The job you have, the life you’re living, the choices you’re making, they’re all preparing you to become someone who can step into new roles, new lives, and make different choices. Every experience contributes to the next, whether you see it at the time or not.

I’ve had a variety of roles, each of which built on the one before it and taught me something vital.

I started by studying Law. I passed the Bar exam before I graduated, but never worked a single day as a lawyer. What I learned, though, was the value of understanding the system you're in, knowing your rights, and the importance of persistence in long-term projects.

That approach shows up today when I build structured systems, read contracts, and remain consistent, even when results take time.

Next, I became a makeup artist. For over eight years, I worked at clients’ homes, balancing my makeup business with my studies. I learned to build trust quickly, work weird hours, and manage my own business.
This taught me how to connect with clients, work independently, and make quick decisions, skills I apply today to manage relationships and adapt to new circumstances.

Then, I transitioned into the engineering sector. I had to create systems for managing machinery by reading complex manuals I never thought I’d encounter. I learned the importance of simplifying communication, innovating for solutions and, I might say above all, of loving what you do (because, honestly, it was absolutely not my favorite job).

These lessons still guide me today in my work with marketing systems and operations, where I try to bring clarity, structure, and innovative solutions to teams and projects. This time at a job I really love.

I also created a brand of handmade scented candles - Ambiance. I set goals, designed the products, created labels, and sold every item myself. I finally had to practice asking for the sale without feeling like I was imposing on others.

This confidence and willingness to promote what I believe in still stays with me, especially when proposing new ideas and standing for what I believe in.

Hospitality came when I changed my entire life by moving countries: from Brazil to Portugal, in 2022. Under the idea of developing my abilities to approach tpeople and be less shy. From working at hostels to five-star hotels, I interacted with people from all over the world, practiced four languages, and had to deal with surprises daily.

This experience taught me the value of empathy, how to manage crises, and how to stay calm when everything seems chaotic.

Every experience added another layer. Every phase prepared me for what’s next.

In my current role with digital marketing and global expansion at Flash, every past experience finds its place. My background in Law helps me review contracts, understand the legislation in each region we’re targeting, and work proactively to avoid legal issues. My time as a makeup artist and candle maker brought creativity and confidence, both essential now when I’m creating content or managing online sales. Those jobs also sharpened my ability to sell and connect, even through a screen. In engineering, I had to dive into complex manuals and unfamiliar systems, just like I’m doing now in the logistics industry, learning fast and making sense of a whole new world. And in hospitality, I learned how to deal with people, calmly, respectfully, and across cultures. I practiced four languages daily, which now helps me communicate clearly with teams and clients around the world. Nothing was wasted. Each step gave me something I still carry.

The truth is, we don’t have to be just one thing. We don’t need to know every step of the journey.

We just have to keep showing up, learn from each experience, and trust that it’s all preparing us for what’s ahead.
